Why I made the MC genderfluid + Feedback form

Designing a game is hard.

Let's take a look back at some very early concept designs for Harper and Ian.

Harper was originally going to have two cisgender designs, and as you can see, they looked VERY different to the Harper we have now.  As someone that is genderfluid myself, I enjoyed games that gave me the option to choose the MC's gender, but at the same time I didn't feel entirely represented.

As I was drawing, and redrawing, Harper's two character sprites over and over again, I realised something...

I can make Harper genderfluid!

As a game dev, if I want to see myself represented in a game I have the power to actually do it! So I made the decision to redesign Harper's character--again! I got rid of the red and green colour palette was I using for them and used a pastel version of the genderfluid flag for Harper's new design.

I do worry that as the game progresses and Harper's gender becomes more obvious to Ian and the player, that some people may not like this. Some people like to fully insert themselves into the MC, and by creating a protagonist that may not match the player's gender, I understand this may upset people.

I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with it just yet, as we are still in early stages of the game's development. But I want to remain firm in my decision to making a game that features a genderfluid main character.

If you have played the demo, and I hope you enjoyed it, please consider letting us know your thoughts via this feedback form that I've created.
